FAQs

Common questions

Straight answers to the questions clients usually ask before booking scalp micropigmentation.

Before you book

SMP is a confidence-focused treatment, so most questions come down to four things: how natural it will look, how long it will last, how many sessions are needed, and what healing is like.

3-4 sessions for most full treatments
Natural finish matched to skin and hair tone
Top-ups only when needed over time
SMP questions and answers

This page covers the treatment itself, who it suits, what healing looks like, and what you can realistically expect from the final result.

How long does scalp micropigmentation last?
+
SMP is long-lasting, but not something most clients leave untouched forever. The result usually holds well for several years, and when it softens, a top-up session can restore the sharpness and density.
How many sessions will I need?
+
Most full SMP treatments are completed over 3 to 4 sessions. Smaller areas, scar work, or light density treatments may need fewer, while more advanced cases are planned individually after consultation.
Does SMP hurt?
+
Most clients describe it as mild discomfort rather than pain. It usually feels like light scratching or tingling, and the intensity varies depending on the area being treated and your own skin sensitivity.
Will it look natural up close?
+
That is the goal of good SMP. The impression size, placement, pigment tone, and spacing all have to be controlled properly so the result looks like natural follicles rather than a flat or obvious tattoo effect.
Can SMP work for thinning hair as well as shaved looks?
+
Yes. SMP can be used to create a clean shaved-look finish or to add the appearance of density between existing hairs for clients with thinning areas who want to keep their length.
Can SMP hide hair transplant scars or injuries?
+
In many cases, yes. SMP is often used to reduce the contrast of FUT, FUE, and injury scars by blending pigment into the surrounding area so the scar is much less noticeable.
Is SMP the same as a normal tattoo?
+
No. SMP uses a different approach, different depth, and different pigment handling than a traditional body tattoo. It is designed specifically for the scalp and for creating tiny, realistic follicle impressions.
Does the pigment turn blue or green over time?
+
Correct pigment choice, depth, and technique are what keep the result looking natural. Poor work can age badly, but properly performed SMP should heal soft and natural rather than shifting into an obvious blue or green tone.
How long does each session take?
+
Most sessions take around 2 to 4 hours depending on the area being worked on. Full treatments usually take longer than scar camouflage or smaller top-up appointments.
What is the healing process like?
+
The scalp can look slightly darker immediately after treatment, then settle as it heals. Some dryness or light flaking is normal. Once the skin calms down, the result looks softer and more natural.
What aftercare do I need to follow?
+
For the first few days, avoid getting the scalp wet, avoid intense sweating, and stay away from saunas or anything that can irritate the treated area. Full aftercare guidance is given at each session.
Can I have SMP if I have had a hair transplant?
+
Yes. Many clients come for SMP after a transplant to improve the look of density, soften visible scarring, or strengthen the overall hairline result.
Who is a good candidate for SMP?
+
SMP can suit men and women dealing with receding hairlines, thinning hair, pattern baldness, alopecia, transplant scars, or patchy loss. The best approach depends on your hair, skin, and the finish you want.
How is pricing worked out?
+
Pricing depends on the treatment type, size of the area, existing hair situation, and whether the work is a full SMP treatment, density session, scar camouflage, or a top-up. Exact pricing is confirmed after consultation.
When will I see the final result?
+
You will see a visible difference from the first session, but the finished result is judged after the treatment plan is complete and each session has had time to heal properly.
